PCU Superstars had their first win of the Tournament on Sunday, coming off a 1-1 draw last weekend. They emerged victorious in the tie against Foursquare Church.
As at the start of the match, the pressure was more on PCU Superstars as the opposing team were looking very dangerous on the Attack. It suddenly seemed like the case of David vs Golliat, as Foursquare players were mostly 8ft tall giants, who knows maybe there are all descendants of Goliath the Gittite (Samuel 17:4). But a display of masterclass defending by captain fantastic (Covenant David Yohana) and a surprise last minute center back pairing with our very own OldMan Zizu (Dr. Hector). Their partnership saw the opposition’s deadly attacks nullified by tactical masterclass offside traps.
Which gave PCU Superstars the much needed fighting chance. PCU Superstars held on till the dying minutes of the first half, as they caught the opposing team on the break. Aligbe and Street executed a series of beautiful one-two passing football and released Kamal with a wonderful pass, and the latter finished it magnificently for his second consecutive goal tally for the tournament. The goal cost him some injuries but it was worth it as it gave PCU Superstars the much needed breathing room to play their football.
The Second half started quite well for PCU. They began to dominate and were the attacking side this time, putting the opposing team on a lot of pressure.
Towards the end of the first half, Lion increased the lead to 2-0 via a wonderful chipped pass over the goalie by Praise(100 lvl) and all Lion did was to pass the ball into an empty net. What a delightful team goal.
PCU Superstars had a chance to increase their lead to 3-0 when Lionn recieved a nice diagonal longball pass from from Dr. Hector. Lionn latched onto the pass with the speed of a cheater loosing his marker in the dust, and released a fantastic through ball for a simple tap-in, but was wasted by Dolapo in a display of unnecessary skillful dribbling.
Not long after Kamal received a second yellow card (Redcard) for committing a foul, this free kick as a result of the foul, led to a goal for the opposing team as a handball was committed in the box by Dr. Hector. A penalty was given and the penalty taker calmly dispatched it, beating our stopper Seun with a top bin finish.
Not long after, the final whistle was blown and the game ended 2-1 in favor of PCU Superstars.
The match was an Exhilarating contest between the two teams but PCU Superstars came out victorious as they extend their unbeaten run to 2 games for the tournament and 4 games in general.
Man of the Match👑
