B.Sc Industrial Mathematics

The aim of the programme is to prepare graduates with high technical abilities in the applications of mathematical solutions to real-world problems, to meet national demands.

The programme also aims to produce high level industrialists with high knowledge in mathematics and to contribute through research and publications towards the growth of Mathematics, Statistics, Business Mathematics and Economics and solving problems arising in industries, business, government and society in general. It is expected that the programme will also to facilitate the creation of computational and economical spirit in young men and women who can help to exploit the available resources and opportunities in Nigeria.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Admission shall be open to all, irrespective of gender, race, religion or political leanings. Applicants must satisfy all faculty and departmental requirements. A prospective candidate must not be less than 15 years of age.

Admission into the undergraduate programmes of the University would be either through the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or by Direct Entry (DE) as organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). However, 90% of applicants will be admitted through the UTME, while the remaining 10% will be by Direct Entry.

UTME (JAMB): Candidates applying for admission into the University through JAMB UTME must have a minimum score of 160, with subjects English, Mathematics and Physics, and any one of Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Economics. Post-UTME screening will be conducted for interested all interested candidates to ensure that only the best students are admitted as well as to maintain high educational standards.

O’Levels: The candidate must have not less than five credit passes (at one sitting) or six credit passes (at two sittings ) in Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or General Certificate Examination Ordinary Level (GCE, ‘O’ Level) organised by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or the National Examination Council (NECO), including English and Mathematics. Five Credit passes in English, Physics and Mathematics and any other two subjects from Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science for all categories of students seeking admission is mandatory.  

Direct Entry: As from the second phase of development, General Certificate Examination Advanced Level (GCE A’ Level) holders with a minimum of 9 points plus ‘O’ Level English and Mathematics, OND with a minimum of credit pass; or graduates of recognised related programmes may be considered for a direct entry. Candidates need Two ‘A’ Level passes Mathematics and Physics and/or Chemistry.
